Zgorzelec, population 32,000, is a town located on the German-Polish border, in Lower Silesia province, southwestern Poland, near the Czech border. It neighbors the German town of Görlitz with which it formed the unique Zgorzelec/Görlitz Europe-Town in 1998 in order to highlight the good relations between the two towns.

By plane, car, train
Zgorzelec lies on European road no. E-40, which links the east and the west of the continent, and the DW352 road, which joins roads leading from the north of Europe to the south. The town is also well-connected with the German railway network while the proximity of the international airports in Berlin (two hours away), Dresden (1.5 hours), Prague (2.5 hours) and Wrocław (2 hours) ensures convenient access to air transportation.

Zgorzelec for business
Zgorzelec has a total of around 100 hectares of attractive land for investment projects. Plots in the southern part of the town are designated for production and service facilities. With a total area of 16 ha, they form the Zgorzelec Subzone of the Kamienna Góra Special Economic Zone. Enterprises carrying out projects in the subzone can look forward to attractive terms of investment along with assistance from local and central government.

The excellent location makes Zgorzelec one of the best places in Poland when it comes to investment projects. Citronex, a major forwarding and logistics company and one of the leading importers of bananas in this part of Europe, has chosen Zgorzelec to be home to what will become the largest fruit ripening plant in Europe. Bananas ripening at the facility will be distributed to supermarkets across Poland, Germany and the Czech Republic.

Zgorzelec for tourists
Zgorzelec is also a perfect destination for those who love history, historic sites, and active recreation. The main tourist attractions in the area include the charming Przedmie¶cie Nyskie Street lined with restaurants and cafes, numerous historic buildings in the neighboring town of Görlitz, bicycle trails and modern sports venues. Those who prefer to relax in nature will appreciate the nearby Jizera, Karkonosze and Lusatian mountains, the Witka Reservoir and Lake Berzdorf in Germany.

Every year, Zgorzelec draws growing numbers of visitors seeking entertainment and culture. In recent years, pride of place in terms of cultural attractions has been claimed by the Jakuby Old Town festival held on the last weekend of August simultaneously with the Altstadtfest in Görlitz. These double Old Town festivities are attended by thousands of visitors from around the world.
