Beth Hart Comes to Poland

Beth Hart sounds like the reincarnation of Janis Joplin, Slant Magazine has pronounced. Hart is one of the most charismatic and distinctive American singers. And she has impersonated Janis Joplin in the New York musical Love, Janis. Hart combines rock, blues and gospel and is the uncompromising essence of American music. She has worked with big names, including Slash of Guns N’ Roses, Joe Bonamassa and Les Paul. She will play her first concerts in Poland in the cities of Warsaw and Wrocław Aug. 9 and 10.

Hart started to play the piano at the age of four. However, a year later the family, who lived in Los Angeles, hit trouble. First, her father was jailed for drug dealing, then her parents divorced. The young Beth Hart became addicted to alcohol and drugs—she started taking drugs when she was 11 and first tried heroin as a 14-year-old. She was expelled from the High School for the Performing Arts in Los Angeles. It was music that saved her.

In 1993, at the age of 21, she won the popular American talent show Star Search. Thanks to the win, she released her first official album, Immortal, in 1996. Her second album, Screamin’ for My Supper, released in 2000, proved a hit, especially “LA Song” with its gentle mood, quite untypical of Hart. It is not without reason that she says of herself: “I am not a gentle girl.” Her body is daubed with tattoos while her experiences are written all over her face. In 2010, she recorded the hit “Mother Maria” in collaboration with Slash. Another collaboration is the song “No Love on the Street” recorded with Joe Bonamassa for his latest album, Dust Bowl. Beth Hart’s latest album is My California, released in 2010 with Slash as a guest performer.
