Pay-TV Keeps Growing
ABI Research data indicates that the number of pay-TV users around the world increased by more than 56 million in 2010, to 704 million. This year, the figure is expected to grow to 745 million. Globally, half of pay-TV clients already use digital packages, and the number of high-definition TV users is expected to reach 225 million this year.

On the other hand, Informa Telecoms & Media believes that the number of clients giving up this kind of service will keep increasing. Last year, 1.19 million people, or 0.18 percent of users, canceled pay-TV, often switching to similar internet services. This small number will not significantly affect pay-TV for now, but it will probably grow. It is expected that the number of clients giving up traditional pay-TV will reach 2.55 million this year, and will rise to nearly 16.1 million, or 2 percent of users, in 2015.

Awards for TVN
A commercial promoting the film Transformers, produced by Polish commercial television station TVN, was named the world’s best trailer last year at the PromaxBDA Promotion, Marketing & Design Awards 2011 event held in New York June 30.

TVN won in two categories: Theatrical Films Shown on Television Promotion and Viral/Web/User Generated Content.

The winning trailer was produced by the TVN Self-Promotion Department with the assistance of the Film Garden studio and the 121PR agency.

TVN also won a silver statuette in the One Time Only Set Design category for its self-promotion commercial in the fall of 2010. The set design is the work of Sławek Czajkowski, a street artist of international renown, and award-winning film set and stage designers Katarzyna Sobańska and Marcel Sławiński.

PromaxBDA is an international organization of media professionals specializing in self-promotion and marketing. Its annual awards for self-promotion campaigns, trailers and design are regarded as the most prestigious distinctions in the industry.
