Poland’s nuclear power program to be ready before summer

A comprehensive nuclear energy package should be presented to the government at the end of Q2, Zbigniew Kubacki, head of nuclear power department at the Economy Ministry said on Wednesday.

Addressing a a sector forum, he added that the ministry expected the program to cover a whole range of steps that need to be taken in order to introduce nuclear energy in Poland.

The construction of the first Polish nuclear power plant should be launched in 2018 with the completion of the first block scheduled for 2023-24, the official said.

State power group PGE has been selected by Poland to build the country's first nuclear plant with capacity of 3000 MW.
