Poland may pursue both nuclear and shale gas projects - PM Tusk
March 12, 2013
Poland need not choose between investments in shale gas and nuclear power as the country can develop both, PM Donald Tusk said during a press conference in Tallinn.
"I will want to solve this false dilemma, i.e. the discussion of shale gas or nuclear power," Tusk said of his plans to meet with respective ministers after the Tuesday cabinet sitting. "We will also talk about the role of state companies from the energy sector in the investment process in shale gas and nuclear power."
The real debate concerns the degree to which particular state entities in the energy sector will be able to shoulder the investment burden, Tusk added.
Tusk last said in October 2012 that Poland would stick to its plans of developing nuclear power generation capacities in parallel with shale gas projects to diversify its energy sources. That comment followed a statement of power group PGE CEO Krzysztof Kilian that nuclear and shale gas projects could not be conducted in parallel.
