Architecture as a Framework For Life

The interaction between space, architecture and the human body is the theme behind the Performing Architecture exhibition at the Ujazdowski Castle Center for Contemporary Art. The exhibition was inspired by two previous works displayed at the center which had architectural undertones.

Space and architecture are here predominantly understood as a framework for life, be it real or imagined, material or spiritual. These are the tools that determine the rituals and forms of material coexistence that delineate day-to-day life, shape communities and mark out the course of individual and collective conflicts. This generates, reinforces and constitutes a variety of passions and emotional states. This is a departure from architecture as an aesthetic and a return to basics—to questions about the way people enter into, feel, measure, live, use and transform physical relationships with one other and the surrounding architecture and space. Works by Joanna Rajkowska, Kate Gilmore, Cyprien Gaillard, Frederic Flamand, Julia Bui-ngoc, Tomasz Kujawski, Ewa ¦migielska, Aleksandra Went/Alicja Karska, and Anna Molska are on display
