Investment is on the rise in Poland’s special economic zones, despite turbulence on European financial markets. In the first 10 months of this year, the 14 zones operating in Poland recorded much stronger results than a year earlier. They issued a total of 137 permits to investors, with the value of the planned projects exceeding zl.5 billion—more than in 2010 as a whole.

The number of new jobs to be created in the zones thanks to the new projects exceeds 7,100. The Katowice and £ód¼ zones issued the largest number of permits—16 each. The Mielec and Wa³brzych zones each issued 15 permits, while the Tarnobrzeg zone issued 14 permits. In terms of investment volume, the Wa³brzych zone leads the field, with the value of projects planned exceeding zl.1.1 billion. In October alone, the Wa³brzych zone issued four permits. The total value of the projects is zl.322 million and they are expected to create 700 jobs. The Kostrzyn-S³ubice zone attracted more than zl.1 billion in investment projects in the first 10 months of this year.
