This year’s ski season in Poland was officially opened Dec. 10 in Białka Tatrzańska near the popular mountain resort of Zakopane in southern Poland. Katarzyna Sobierajska, the undersecretary of state in the Ministry of Sports and Tourism, was the first to take an official ride down the local Bania slope.

Of the many ski resorts in Poland, Białka Tatrzańska was chosen to host the season opening because it came up with the idea of introducing a single, integrated ski-pass system called the TatrySki card. This season, the ski pass will cover the ski centers of Czorsztyn-Ski in Kluszkowice, Jurgów-Ski in Jurgów and Bania, Kotelnica and Kaniówka in Białka Tatrzańska. Several other ski centers will be added to the system in the future.
