Poland’s electronic book market is worth an estimated zl.6-9 million annually; to compare, the traditional book market was worth zl.2.94 billion in 2010, according to Biblioteka Analiz, a specialized publication that keeps track of developments on Poland’s publishing and bookstore market.

Although Poland’s ebook market is still modest compared with its counterparts in many other countries, it is growing twice as fast as at the end of 2010 and has enormous potential for further growth, experts say. The electronic book market in this country may be spurred by Amazon, the world’s largest online bookstore, which is planning to expand into Poland. At Amazon, ebook sales are already higher than those of conventional books.

By 2015, the global e-book market is expected to be worth four times as much as in 2010, at $12.3 billion, according to estimates by consulting firm PricewaterhouseCoopers. The Polish market is expected to grow from $6 million in 2010 to $86 million in 2015, PwC says.
