Scottish hard rock icons Nazareth are coming to Poland to give five concerts April 12-17 in Katowice, Warsaw, Poznań, Gdynia and Lublin. Fans of the legendary group are gearing up for a dose of the band’s energy and hypnotizing vocals from frontman Dan McCafferty.

The band formed as The Shadettes in Dunfermline, Scotland, in the 1960s. Back then, the musicians toured Scotland playing cover versions of latest radio hits. In 1968, they changed their name to Nazareth and then, in search of success, headed for London, where they soon recorded their first albums and played concerts alongside the likes of Deep Purple. They shot to international fame with the album Hair of the Dog (1975), which sold over 500,000 copies in the United States alone. Nazareth are known for their cover of an old Everly Brothers hit, “Love Hurts.” Their version is now considered a rock ballad classic. The single went gold in the United States, making it to number 8 on the Billboard chart, and in Brazil, and platinum in Canada, while topping the charts in Norway, the Netherlands and South Africa.

Nazareth have now been touring the world for five decades and releasing new albums with unremitting energy. The Newz album from 2008, recorded by the current line-up of Dan McCafferty (vocals), Jimmy Murrison (guitar), Pete Agnew (bass) and Lee Agnew (drums), surprised fans with its heavy-metal edge. In Poland, Nazareth will be promoting their latest album, Big Dogz from 2011.
