Ray Manzarek, one of the founders of the legendary rock band the Doors, has still got it – as you will soon be able to confirm for yourself when he performs in Poland with virtuoso slide guitarist Roy Rogers May 10-12.

Manzarek is one of the most influential keyboard players in the history of rock music. His flashy, imaginative style is instantly recognizable and subsequent generations have cut their teeth on him. Manzarek is of Polish descent and was born and raised on the South Side of Chicago, Illinois. His parents, Helena and Raymond Manczarek were children of Polish immigrants. As they had always taken an interest in his musical education, it wasn’t really surprising that he finished his musical studies in Chicago with a distinction before going on to study at the Department of Cinematography at the University of California, Los Angeles.

Curiously, it was his education in filmmaking that was to have the greatest influence of his musical career. The Doors owe their existence to a chance meeting between Manzarek and fellow film school student Jim Morrison on Venice Beach, LA, in 1965. Manzarek has continued his musical career since Morrison died in 1971.

Rogers has been on the scene for over 30 years and is recognized as one of the major exponents of the delta blues slide technique. He has been nominated for a Grammy eight times – as a player, producer, lyricist and composer.

Manzarek and Rogers are coming to Poland as the Manzarek–Rogers Band, to promote their second album, Translucent Blues, which came out late last year and was ranked No. 3 on the Top 100 Roots Rock Albums of 2011 by The Roots Music Report
