Power of Sport in Posters
May 31, 2012
Article's tools:

The Art Gallery at the Frederic Chopin International Airport in Warsaw is hosting an exhibition of over 70 sports-related posters by Poland’s greatest poster designers such as Jerzy Skolimowski, Jerzy Hryniewiecki and Waldemar ¦wierzy. Designed between 1920 and 1970, all the items on display come from the collection of the Wilanów Poster Museum, a branch of the National Museum in Warsaw.

The posters herald various competitions, from fencing tournaments to track-and-field events, cycling and balloon races to skiing events. Some encourage young people to take up sports, including ¦wierzy’s poster from 1953 which reads “Boys and girls, learn to swim!”

The posters are shown alongside a selection of tourist posters which encourage foreigners to visit Poland and see its scenic nooks and crannies.

On display until June 30
