Poland’s first automated online assistant appeared on the website of the city of Gdynia in April. With a pleasant female voice, it answers the most frequently asked questions from customers.

It is enough to type in your question or select a topic to immediately get a response. The service has been developed by Polish IT company InteliWISE, which specializes in creating such avatars.

An avatar is a graphical image that represents a person. Such avatars are used by organizations as a part of automated customer services in order to interact with consumers and users of services. Businesses use them to reduce their operating costs.

In the innovative data management system developed by InteliWISE, the automated online assistant is generated by an application using a Natural Language Processing mechanism and an advanced knowledge management system.

InteliWISE uses technology that combines Artificial Intelligence Mark-Up Language (AIML) with knowledge and multimedia database management, including dynamic image processing and speech synthesis.

InteliWISE has a catalogue of over 100 faces and figures to use for its avatars. For now, its avatars speak Polish and English, but experiments have also been conducted to have these automated online assistants speak Spanish, Russian and Arabic.

InteliWISE’s customers include telecommunications companies, the Polish state rail carrier, and the Warsaw Stock Exchange. Customers abroad include Citibank, Comcast Corporation, and Arvato Digital Services of the United States, which offers outsourcing services in 18 countries. Moreover, last year, InteliWISE signed an agreement with Polish insurance company Warta to install an automated online assistant system on the insurer’s website. The company’s automated online assistant will also appear on the website of New York-based company LivePerson Inc., a leading global provider of Live Chat software.

This year, InteliWISE has made a deal with Indian company Wipro Limited, which will buy the Polish firm’s Virtual Agent technology for its customers in the finance and insurance industry on the U.S. market and in Europe.

In March this year, InteliWISE signed an agreement with Poland’s National Center for Research and Development to develop an Intelligent Content Provision System. The project will be carried out together with Israeli partner KPA, a consulting company in the field of modern management and analysis with offices in Europe and the United States and an expert on smart technology. The total cost of the project is zl.1.23 million, with co-financing to the tune of zl.740,000.

InteliWISE has a staff of 15 and a representative office in Silicon Valley in the United States.

The company aims to combine its Avatar know-how with other information technology, including solutions related to Facebook and other social networking media.

InteliWISE is working to improve its Natural Language Understanding and Natural Language Processing algorithms. The company’s flagship product, the automated online assistant, has been developed as part of a zl.3.4 million research and development project financed by the National Center for Research and Development.

The company’s strategic objective is to become a key provider of software based on artificial intelligence algorithms on both European Union markets and in the United States over the next two to three years. Sales to major customers abroad are possible through a partnership with leading international venture capital fund Intel Capital.
