A new, 18-hole golf course—the largest and most modern in Poland—opened in Sobienie Królewskie near Warsaw at the end of June after a three-year construction project.

The opening tournament attracted a host of celebrities including former NHL hockey player Mariusz Czerkawski and ex-soccer star Jerzy Dudek, who was once the goalkeeper of the Polish national team and also played for Liverpool and Real Madrid.

The Sobienie Królewskie Golf & Country Club is billed as Poland’s only master-class golf club that can be accessed directly by plane. Apart from fairways and greens, the golf course also comprises training facilities.

Visitors to the golf course can polish their playing techniques at a large and challenging putting green, diverse chipping areas and bunkers.

Radosław Pieniak, manager of the Sobienie Królewskie Golf & Country Club, said the opening of the course followed several years of concerted efforts. “Right now it is the most cutting-edge golf course in Poland,” Pieniak said. “We want to take advantage of its well-developed facilities to promote golf. We have also been assembling a golf team to compete for the biggest trophies in Poland and possibly abroad.”

The Sobienie Królewskie golf course was designed by architects Ford Golf Design Group from Britain. It is a links-type golf course that occupies 85 hectares of land and is 6,025 meters in length.
