Former Treasury minister Aleksander Grad has been appointed CEO of PGE Energia Jądrowa and PGE EJ 1, which have been tasked with building Poland’s first nuclear power plant.

The two companies are subsidiaries of the PGE energy group. The government plans to build two nuclear power plants with a total capacity of 6,000 MW. The first reactor is scheduled to go online in 2022 or 2023.

Grad was treasury minister for four years during the previous government led by Prime Minister Donald Tusk. He won a parliamentary seat in the 2011 election, but quit as a deputy in June this year.
