Mars Berman, an English language specialist from America, chats with Jolanta Wolska.

What brings you to Warsaw?
A couple of years ago my horoscope said that I had three days to change my life and at the same time there was an opening for a teaching job in Warsaw. So here I am. On top of that, my roots are Polish so I was drawn to the place like a magnet.

What do you think of the education system in Warsaw?
I feel the city needs more variety and educational options for Poles and foreigners alike. Good schools come from parents committed to excellence. Warsaw is attracting a lot of bilingual teachers from Greece and Spain. That is quite interesting. The number of bookstores in Warsaw is phenomenal, but I feel there ought to be more English-language bookstores. Books are the key to children’s minds.

What do you like about Warsaw?
It is a wonderful mid-sized city. I love not to have to drive a car as the transport system is very good. And I enjoy the natural and healthy Polish food. I love Warsaw and it is getting better every year. There is much more English spoken in Warsaw than for example in Berlin.

What else would you like to see in Warsaw?
I want to create an English-language library for children and adults. That is my big dream. Also, it would be fantastic if finally the Modern Art Museum became a reality.
