Russian pianist Denis Matsuev will play Rachmaninoff at Warsaw’s National Philharmonic Nov. 4 together with the Sinfonia Varsovia orchestra. This will be the first in a series of concerts dedicated to Sergei Rachmaninoff and organized to mark the 140th anniversary of the composer’s birth.

Matsuev is one of the most talented pianists in the world. After his triumph at the 11th International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow in 1998, he quickly became a world-class star and one of the most respected pianists of his generation. He is a top Rachmaninoff expert and a leading performer of his works. Warsaw marks the first stop in Matsuev’s world concert tour dedicated to Rachmaninoff.

The Rachmaninoff Gala is a major music event held in honor of the great Russian composer. The concert series will be organized in association with the Sergei Rachmaninoff Foundation, which was established in 1999 by the composer’s grandson Alexander Rachmaninoff, who lives in the Rachmaninoff family residence, Villa Senar, in Switzerland. Alexander Rachmaninoff will be a special guest at the November concert in Warsaw.

During the Warsaw concert, Matsuev will be accompanied by the acclaimed Polish Sinfonia Varsovia orchestra conducted by top Russian conductor Alexander Sladkovsky. The concert will feature works including Symphony No. 2 in E minor, op. 27 and Piano Concerto No. 3 in D minor, op. 30.
