Polish manufacturing improves for first time in over a year: report
August 2, 2013
Article's tools:

Business conditions in the Polish manufacturing sector improved for the first time in over a year at the start of the third quarter, according to PMI data released by HSBC and Markit Thursday.

The PMI measurement broke the 50 point threshold to reach 51.1 points in July - indicating growth rather than contraction for the first time in 15 months.

The headline HSBC Poland Manufacturing purchasing manager's index (PMI) measures manufacturing performance using a single-figure indicator based on monthly surveys of private companies.

The report by HSBC and Markit said the latest PMI of 51.1 “indicated an overall improvement in business conditions, ending a sequence of deterioration that stretched back to April 2012.”

HSBC economist Agata Urbanska said that the PMI survey is yet another piece of data that suggests that the Polish economy bottomed in the first half of 2013 and that now “the big question is about the pace of recovery.”
