October 26, 2012
Portuguese discount-store operator Jeronimo Martins, which operates the largest grocery chain in Poland, opened its 2,000th Biedronka store in Poland in October. The store is in £ód¼.
Jeronimo Martins has invested over zl.8 billion in Poland since 1995.
“This is another milestone in the development of the chain in Poland; Biedronka stores are visited by nearly a billion customers annually,” said Tomasz Suchański, general manager of the Biedronka chain in Poland. “The 2,000th Biedronka store in Poland is the next step to achieving our goal, which is to have 3,000 stores by 2015.”
Also in October the company opened a new distribution center in the central city of Sieradz. This marks the retailer’s 11th investment project of this kind in Poland.
The importance of the Polish market for the Jeronimo Martins group is shown by the fact that the opening of the £ód¼ store attracted a number of top Jeronimo Martins executives including the president of the group, Alexandre Soares dos Santos; Pedro Soares dos Santos, CEO of Jeronimo Martins Group; and Pedro Pereira da Silva, COO of Jeronimo Martins Group and Country Manager of Jeronimo Martins in Poland.
