Good Deed for Christmas
October 26, 2012
The Polish President and the First Lady, Polish Olympians and other outstanding Polish athletes, Real Madrid soccer players and artists are all taking part in the Szlachetna Paczka (Noble Present) campaign which brings help to poor families. Each year, this unique initiative has been gaining more support among both celebrities and ordinary people. Last year alone, 150,000 Polish people joined in.
The nationwide Szlachetna Paczka project brings help to people who are in need through no fault of their own. Unlike other similar projects, Szlachetna Paczka was designed to offer help to specific people at Christmas.
Polish President Bronisław Komorowski and his wife Anna take part in the project every year. Last year, they prepared a Christmas present for a family with nine children, several of them disabled, living in Biała Podlaska, eastern Poland. The present package contained a fridge, a laptop, a bunk bed, food and thermal clothing.
Last year, the Szlachetna Paczka project helped a total of 11,884 underprivileged families across Poland. The support offered by individual donors was worth over zl.18 million.
