"Weak" economic rebound in second half of 2013: report
August 8, 2013
Article's tools:

Poland will enter a weak economic recovery in the second half of 2013 that will gain strength in the second half of 2014, Jerzy Hausner from the Monetary Policy Council wrote in a report released Wednesday.

"From the second half of 2013, we will enter a recovery phase, initially weak" Hausner wrote in an economic study for the government's Polish Agency for Enterprise Development agency.

The recovery will begin in the first half of 2014 and will be stronger than in the first half of 2013. The recovery will gather momentum in the second half of 2014.

This year may prove to be the most difficult year for a large part of enterprises, especially medium-sized and large firms, the report said.

"Quarterly and annual investment plans of enterprises do not indicate improvement" of the private investments situation, according to the report. "This also means that the construction sector in 2014 will still be in deep recession. And only a new wave of public investments can change that."

In terms of domestic demand, Poland remains in stagnation and "strong growth is not in sight," the report said. "A noticeable employment growth would be needed for that to happen. And that is not to be expected."
