Cartoonists on Display
November 29, 2012
Article's tools:

The Association of Polish Cartoonists (SPAK) is staging a huge exhibition of Polish cartoons and satirical drawings entitled Koniec żartów (The End of Jokes) to mark the 25th anniversary of its founding. There are nearly 500 drawings from some 170 cartoonists and caricaturists on display. These artists hail from all over Poland and not all of them are or were SPAK members.

There are 33 drawings from some of Poland’s leading artists who have died since 1987 (the year SPAK was founded), including Antoni Chodorowski, Andrzej Czeczot and Jerzy Flisak. There are, of course, also works by artists who are still with us, including Andrzej Mleczko, Sławomir Mrożek, Witold Mysyrowicz, Andrzej Podulka, Henryk Sawka and Zbigniew Ziomecki. Here we might mention the work of Dariusz Pietrzak, a longtime Warsaw Voice contributor. The artists represented at the exhibition have notched up more than 1,000 Polish and international awards between them.

There will be a 288-page catalog available to accompany the exhibition.
