Walewska in Christmas Concert

Celebrated Polish mezzo-soprano małgorzata Walewska will give a concert Dec. 9 at the Studio Theater in Warsaw, performing songs selected especially for Christmas. Walewska graduated with honors from the Academy of Music in Warsaw in 1994. A prize winner and finalist of many prestigious vocal competitions, she has won prizes at the Alfred Kraus International Competition on the Canary Islands (First Prize in 1992) and the Luciano Pavarotti Competition in Philadelphia (finalist, 1992).

Walewska had her on-stage debut as Aza in Manru, an opera by Ignacy Paderewski staged at the Wielki Theater in Warsaw in 1991. She has since steadily expanded her repertoire with the most important mezzo-soprano parts, including the title role in Carmen by Georges Bizet. She has been a guest performer at opera theaters in Berlin (Deutsche Oper), Bremen, Düsseldorf (Deutsche Oper am Rhein), Essen, Geneva, Klagenfurt, Las Palmas, Luxembourg, Rome (Teatro della Opera), Santa Cruz and Florida (Palm Beach Opera). In 1996-1998, she had a contract with the Staatsoper in Vienna and since 1999, she has worked with the Semperoper in Dresden, Germany.

Walewska’s on-stage collaborations include Placido Domingo, Edita Gruberova, Dmitry Hvorostovsky and Luciano Pavarotti. She has also been an accomplished performer of oratorio and concert repertoire. Walewska is signed to the Sony Music Polska label.
