ArcelorMittal Invests in Steelworks
ArcelorMittal, the world’s largest steel producer, plans to complete four investment projects with a combined value of 58 million euros in its Polish steelworks by the end of the year. The largest of these projects, worth 36 million euros, will enable ArcelorMittal to launch production of 120-meter rail tracks in the southern city of D±browa Górnicza, Silesia province.

ArcelorMittal has invested more than 1 billion euros in its Polish steelworks since 2004.


Jobs for Ukrainians
Poland is the largest job market in the European Union for workers from neighboring Ukraine.

In 2011, Polish employers offered almost 260,000 jobs to foreigners. Of these, almost 240,000 were for Ukrainians. Data for 2012 is not yet available.


Polish Helicopters for Philippines
Aircraft producer PZL-¦widnik, part of the Agusta Westland group, delivered two Sokół helicopters to the Philippine air force at the end of December.

Under a contract signed in 2010, PZL-¦widnik will supply the Philippine air force with a total of eight helicopters for the transport of troops, spare parts and munitions. The helicopters will come together with technical support services.

Six helicopters have already been delivered and the last two will reach the Philippines at the beginning of this year.


PGNiG Finds Shale Gas in Pomerania
Polish oil and gas company PGNiG says it has located a new shale gas deposit at a depth of 3,000 meters near the northern town of Wejherowo, Pomerania province.

In September 2011, PGNiG found a shale gas deposit at Lubocino near the town of Puck, Pomerania province. A total of 31 vertical wells have been drilled in Poland so far in search of shale gas.


Ferrero Vaunts CSR Credentials
Ferrero International, one of the world’s largest confectionery producers, has outlined 10 of the group’s goals until 2020—including challenges and plans to upgrade the company’s business—in its latest annual Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) report.

The annual report was presented at the Italian embassy in Warsaw in November. The Italian-based group’s CSR reports are traditionally presented in the Italian embassies in countries in which the company is active. Ferrero has a confectionery factory in Belsk Duży, in the central Mazovia province.
