PM denies rumors that Finance Minister will be fired

Finance Minister Jacek Rostowski has not been threatened with dismissal nor hinted at his own resignation, Prime Minister Donald Tusk told reporters Wednesday, responding to what he described as unfounded rumors.
"Give Rostowski a break," Tusk told reporters on the sidelines of a parliamentary debate on the 2013 budget revision. "He has a lot of work to do on the budget, on OFE [pension reform]. Don't discourage him."
Tusk was responding to suggestions that his comments at an Aug. 20 press conference had not offered clear support for Rostowski amid media reports that a dismissal is planned.
Tusk said that "these reports about the dismissals of various ministers" were "totally out of sync with reality."
Media reports of a possible Rostowski dismissal date back to a Reuters report on the matter that received broad coverage in the Polish press.
