Ten Taliban fighters were killed and at least seven Polish soldiers were wounded as Polish forces repelled an attack Wednesday on their military base in Ghazni province, eastern Afghanistan, according to military spokesman Major Marek Pietrzak.
The attack began when a truck packed with explosives attempted to breach a perimeter wall. Taliban forces opened fire but were quickly shot and killed, Polish media reported.
The lives of the wounded Polish soldiers are not in danger, Pietrzak said.
There are about 1,800 Polish soldiers serving in the NATO-led mission in Afghanistan, which is due to end in 2014. Forty-two Poles have been killed or died as a result of their injuries since the start of the international mission in Afghanistan, which began in 2002.
