Prominent governing party Civic Platform (PO) politician Jaroslaw Gowin suspended his membership in PO caucus for three months to express solidarity with another PO MP Jacek Zalek, who got suspended in his caucus member rights for violating party discipline in parliamentary votes, Gowin said on Friday.
Earlier on Friday PO caucus had suspended Zalek and imposed a PLN 1,000 fine on Gowin for violating party discipline in parliamentary votings.
Caucus head Rafal Grupinski said that Zalek needed to face more severe consequences as he had broken the discipline much more often than Gowin.
Gowin, who recently lost against PM Donald Tusk in party leadership election but collected 20% of votes, is considered as informal leader of PO's conservative wing. Zalek is also considered a member of the conservative wing.
