German carrier airberlin is increasing the number of flights it offers between Poland and Berlin.

Warsaw has become the third Polish destination for airberlin, the second largest airline in Germany. airberlin’s CEO Hartmut Mehdorn announced in Warsaw in November that on March 23, airberlin would start operating up to three flights daily from Warsaw to Berlin. “We will also introduce more connections on the Cracow-Berlin route, which together will total up to 48 flights from Poland to the German capital every week.”

airberlin is one of Europe’s leading airlines, with flights to 170 destinations in 40 countries. It has a fleet of 158 aircraft whose age averages five years, making it one of Europe’s newest and most environmentally friendly fleets.

According to Wolfgang Prock-Schauer, the chief strategy and network planning officer at airberlin, with up to three flights a day, airberlin will become the airline with the most flights plying the Warsaw-Berlin route. “In 2012, a total of 40,000 passengers flew from Poland to Germany with us,” said Prock-Schauer, adding, “Our air hub in Berlin provides our passengers with optimal access to our global route network.”

Travelers flying from Poland can choose from connecting flights to nine destinations in Germany and continue to 41 destinations in Europe and seven more in airberlin’s intercontinental network. Destinations include Düsseldorf, Munich, Vienna, Göteburg, Stockholm, Copenhagen, Oslo, Barcelona, Rome and Tel Aviv. Destinations on long-haul flights will soon include Abu Dhabi, New York and, starting March, Chicago.
