Spotlight on Steam Locomotives
January 31, 2013
Article's tools:

The Crazy Locomotive, a new exhibition at the Rail Museum, focuses on steam locomotives—which in their day were a symbol of technological progress and a source of fascination for photographers. The exhibition comprises black-and-white photographs of landscape features that highlighted the rapid development of railroads, including trains, tracks, tunnels and stations.

The pictures were taken by 16 pioneering, internationally acclaimed photographers of the 19th and 20th centuries including Eva Rubinstein, Karol Beyer, Jan Bu³hak, William England, Alfred Stieglitz and Stanis³aw Ignacy Witkiewicz. The photographs come from the collections of the National Museum in Warsaw, the Museum of Art in £ód¼, the Tatra Museum in Zakopane, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the Rail Museum in Warsaw.
