Audiences at the Studio Theater in Warsaw will get a rare treat Jan. 28 when, as part of an international project called The Met: Live in HD, they can see a live broadcast of the opera Rigoletto from the Metropolitan Opera in New York City.

The award-winning project comprises a series of opera performances broadcast live and in high-definition from one of the world’s most famous opera theaters.

The Metropolitan Opera has been broadcasting its performances to 1,600 theaters in 54 countries for seven seasons now. Audiences at the Studio Theater will be among thousands of people watching the same show at the same time around the world.

The New York production of Rigoletto is directed by Michael Mayer, an accomplished director of successful musicals. The famous piece “La donna e mobile” will be sung by Polish tenor Piotr Beczała (pictured) together with world-famous German soprano Diana Damrau.

The Metropolitan Opera has built its reputation as the one of the world’s most famous opera theaters by working with top singers, conductors, directors and set designers. It saw the debut of Enrico Caruso and launched the career of Maria Callas and many others.
