Art as a Glimpse of the Future
March 1, 2013
Article's tools:

Today’s Art Makes Tomorrow’s Poland, a new exhibition at the Presidential Palace in Warsaw, features works by well-known, mostly Polish contemporary artists, selected from the collection of the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw.

Opening the exhibition, President Bronisław Komorowski said he liked the idea of contemporary art being considered an indication of what Poland will look like in the future. “But a second thought could be added to this one, namely, that what today is the most rebellious kind of art will become classic art in the future,” Komorowski said. “This is what progress is about.”

The exhibition’s title is a verbatim quote from The Prognosis (2012), a work by Cezary Bodzianowski which hangs at the museum’s temporary home at 51 Emilii Plater St.

The Prognosis alludes to the language of political propaganda from the past and to contemporary election slogans which are part of democracy. Through the exhibition, the Museum of Modern Art aims to show the different approaches contemporary artists take to social and cultural changes which have taken place in Poland since the communism fell in 1989.

Until April 21; Presidential Palace, 46/48 Krakowskie Przedmie¶cie St.

Open to the public on selected Saturdays and Sundays.

Free admission. For further information go to www.prezydent.pl and www.artmuseum.pl
