Klara, a play that premiered March 21 at the Powszechny Theater in Warsaw, is a bittersweet comedy about contemporary 40-year-olds, exploring their loneliness, insecurities, the need for love and the fear of love.

The play is based on a popular novel by Iza Kuna, who is also an accomplished actress. Klara is a single and pushing 40. She has serious problems putting the pieces of her life together as she struggles with a long-term love affair with Aleks, a married man, and complicated relations with her mother and friends. She swallows sleeping pills by the handful, washes antidepressants down with alcohol, tries to fight her inner demons and feels she has just had enough.

The cast includes Aleksandra Bożek, Agnieszka Krukówna and Marek Kalita, who is also the set designer. The costumes were designed by Adam Kasjaniuk and the music was written by Michał Kwiatkowski.

Upcoming performances: April 10, 11, 12, 13 and 14, 7:30 p.m.
