Warsaw Dance Scene 2013
March 27, 2013
Article's tools:

The third season of the Warsaw Dance Scene festival kicks off soon, with performances over six nights in April, May and June and a special Warsaw Dance Night in November.

Audiences will be able to catch performances by dancers who live and work in Warsaw and by artists from abroad. The special guests of this year’s Warsaw Dance Scene will be young dancers from the Gdańsk-Sopot-Gdynia area in northern Poland.

The festival opens with Oops, a show by Poland’s Anita Wach and Slovenian director Bojan Jablanovec (Via Negativa Theater). The Teatr monthly magazine named it the best dance show of the 2011/2012 season.

Later this year, the Pink Mama Theatre group (pictured) of Polish, German and French dancers headed by Sławek Bendrat will stage Freaks, which deals with human identity and a clash between traditional ballet and modern dance.

Warsaw audiences will also see Tralfamadoria by Izabela Chlewińska. The show’s title was borrowed from the novel Slaughterhouse-Five by Kurt Vonnegut.

One of the festival’s six evenings will showcase young, expressive dancers from the northern city of Gdańsk, including Magdalena Jędra and Anna Steller, known for their involvement in the Good Girl Killer group.

The Warsaw Dance Scene festival will also include the premiere performance of a shown entitled Beep by Karol Tymiński, one of the most talented dancers of the young generation. Tymiński is a member of the international Advancing Performing Art Project (APAPnet).
