The long-lasting friendship between chanteuse Édith Piaf and film star Marlene Dietrich has inspired a new musical entitled Édith and Marlene, directed by famous Hungarian movie director Márta Mészáros. Produced by the Jan Kiepura Music Theater of Mazovia, the show is being staged at the Matecznik Mazowsze arena in Otrêbusy, near Warsaw.

Written by Hungarian playwright Éva Pataki, Édith and Marlene tells the story of two friends with two extraordinary, but very different personalities. Marlene, cold haughty and from Germany, and the spontaneous, passionate and French Édith, tireless in her quest to find true love, found a connection in their shared love for music and song.

The show features some of the greatest hits made famous by the two stars, including Piaf’s “La vie en rose,” “Padam, Padam” and “Milord” and the famous “Ich bin von Kopf bis Fuss auf Liebe eingestellt” from the Blue Angel movie, in which Marlene Dietrich played the title role.

Édith is played by Anna Sroka-Hryñ and Marlene by pop singer Halina Mlynkova, the latter appearing for the first time in a theatrical production.

The music directors are pianists and arrangers Czes³aw Majewski and Janusz Tylman. The sets were designed by Marek Chowaniec and costumes by Tatiana Kwiatkowska.

Upcoming performances: April 18 and 19, 7 p.m.
