Poland to hike excise on liquors and tobacco next year

Poland's government Wednesday approved the increase of excise tax on spirits by 15% and a 5% rise of excise tax on tobacco products as of 2014, according to budget-related bill for 2014 adopted during the Wednesday sitting.
The bill is closely connected with a draft budget as it introduces a number of solutions required to correctly implement the 2014 budget, the Government Information Centre said.
"A hike by 15% envisages that the price of a bottle of vodka (0.5 l, 40% volume) will increase by around PLN 1.8 (including VAT)," the statement from the cabinet sitting read.
The excise tax hike on alcohol is planned to add to the budget PLN 780 million in additional revenues.
