American Devin Saylor, Director of Sustainability at Skanska Commercial Development Europe, chats to Jolanta Wolska.

What brings you to Warsaw?
I came to Warsaw in August 2011 from Sofia with a previous company I worked for in the construction field. I wanted to come here as I felt that within the Eastern European region most development was taking place in Poland and of course in Warsaw.

What kind of development have you seen here?
Warsaw has done a great job in brightening up the city buildings. Poland has one of the strongest economies in Europe and great demographics, which makes it a great place for investing. It seems that responsible development in the majority of regional cities in Poland is as important as in the capital.

You specialize in green development. How prevalent is that here?
I think the idea is very popular in Poland and there are many examples of green certified buildings. Anyone planning projects today is looking at incorporating green strategies and technologies. Also, there are varying levels of green. However, I believe the market is still a long way off from fully understanding all of the benefits associated with green building.

Do you have favorite places and buildings in Warsaw?
I like the fact that the city is changing so quickly and enjoy watching all of the new buildings and trends arrive in Warsaw. It seems there are new shops, restaurants and buildings each time I walk the same street. I live close to Łazienki Park and try to spend as much time there on the weekend as possible. It is hard to believe that such a place exists so close to a city center.
