Archbishop Jozef Michalik
The head of the Roman Catholic episcopate in Poland, Archbishop Jozef Michalik, called a press conference on Tuesday to apologize for his unfortunate comment on child sex abuse, which he called a misunderstanding.
Earlier on Tuesdy, while commenting cases of pedophilia in the Church he said “ We often hear that this inappropriate attitude (pedophilia), or abuse, manifests itself when a child is seeking love," "It (the child) clings, it searches. It gets lost itself and then draws another person into this."
Michalik corrected himself at the press conference saying “The context of my comment was as follows: a child is always innocent. But it can be hurt not only by priests but also by its own environment," he said.
Guidelines of reactions to pedophilia were the main topics of the debates of the Conference of the Polish Episcopate that started in Warsaw on Tuesday.
