Rail freight carrier PKP Cargo eyes foreign takeovers – CEO
October 11, 2013
To-be-listed logistics firm PKP Cargo will consider acquisitions of foreign rail carriers, most likely in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Germany or Hungary, CEO Lukasz Boron said during a video conference late Wednesday.
"We will consider acquisitions of private carriers abroad," Boron said.
"We would like potential acquisitions to enable us to increase the tonnage of goods carried on particular markets by a few million tons and bring about a greater diversification of business."
PKP Cargo will focus on neighboring countries such as Czech Republic, Slovakia, Germany, perhaps Hungary, Boron added.
The firm is not interested in domestic carriers, because most of them are in a poor financial situation, the CEO also said.
PKP Cargo signaled interest in foreign expansion in its issue prospectus published a few days ago.
