The annual Jewish Book Days fair will be held in Warsaw for the 16th time June 9-12.

As in previous years, the fair, organized by the Midrasz Association, will include over a dozen meetings with writers as well as lectures and panel discussions.

The main aim of the event is to promote Jewish books among Polish readers, promote Polish publications on Jewish subjects abroad, and highlight the fact that the culture of contemporary Polish Jews is an integral part of Polish culture.

This year’s Jewish Book Days will focus on authors writing in Polish and Yiddish during the interwar period.

One of the main topics of this year’s fair will be the work of Julian Tuwim (1894-1953), a great Polish poet of Jewish ancestry who repeatedly returned to Jewish subjects in his works.

Jewish authors in interwar Warsaw included Icchok Lejb Perec, Isaac Bashevis Singer, Izrael Sztern, Alter Kacyzne, Rachel Auerbach, and Yechiel Hofer.

As usual, Jewish Book Days events will be recorded to be later published in Midrasz Magazine for readers who cannot be in Warsaw during the fair.

A special bookstore will be available during Jewish Book Days with the most interesting books on Jewish subjects, in both Polish and English language versions.

When: June 9-12
Where: Moses Schorr Center at 6 Twarda St.; Mamele Club at the Jewish Theater, 12/16 Grzybowski Sq.; Austrian Culture Forum, 9 Próżna St.; and Pardon To Tu cafe, 12/16 Grzybowski Sq.
