The Dramatyczny Theater has two new productions playing this summer at its Scena na Woli (Wola Stage) venue in Warsaw’s Wola district.

The first production is Still Life in a Ditch, an intriguing play by contemporary Italian playwright Fausto Paravidino. The play is a crime thriller that conjures up the feel of films by the likes of Quentin Tarantino and Guy Ritchie. The Dramatyczny Theater production is directed by Małgorzata Bogajewska.

The story is set in an undefined small town in northern Italy that is the scene of a horrible crime: a young woman named Elisa Orlando is found dead at 4 a.m. on a Saturday night in a ditch along the state highway, abandoned there by someone who stripped her off her clothes and documents. The police inspector in charge of the investigation has just hours to resolve the case before news of the murder leaks to the media...

In the play, Paravidino asks perplexing questions about the condition of modern man and uses a multiple-character perspective to show a world that has broken into pieces.

When: July 17 and 18, 8 p.m.

The other new production at the Dramatyczny Theater’s Scena na Woli venue this summer is Exterminator, a comedy written by Przemek Jurek and directed by Aldona Figura—featuring a large dose of rock music.

This is a story of four friends—Marceli, Makar, Jaromir and Lizzy—who, in the old days, would listen to the same music and dream about music careers for themselves. Now, as middle-aged men, they still meet every Friday at a local culture center to play death metal for fun. One day an opportunity arises to play for a wider audience...

The play, based on Jurek’s novel Kochanowo i okolice (Kochanowo and Surrounds), touches upon a problem faced by many young people when confronted with a choice between their dreams and a compromise demanded by real life.

When: July 23 and 24, 8 p.m.
