The Giants Wroc³aw team beat the Warsaw Eagles at the National Stadium in the capital July 14 to win the final of this year’s Polish American Football League (PLFA).

Formerly known as the “Polish Bowl,” the 8th Trawnik Producent PLFA Super Finals were seen live by over 16,000 people. Giants Wroc³aw beat the Warsaw Eagles 29 to 13 and their running back Jamal Shulters was voted best player of the game. The win in Warsaw was the third such triumph for the Wroc³aw players after they topped the league in 2007 and 2011 under the name of Wroc³aw Crew.

Meanwhile, the Warsaw Eagles have won the PLFA finals twice, in 2006 and 2008. They are the oldest American football team in Poland. Their story began in 1999 when several American football fans started getting together to play the game in a park in Warsaw. They soon formed a team, but for the next five years they remained the only such squad in Poland, with no one to play against. By 2006, three more teams had been formed in Poland and the Polish American Football League was born. This season, a total of 74 teams took part in Top League games and in PLFA I, PLFA II, PLFA 8 and PLFA J games.
