The Royal Łazienki Music Festival was one of the biggest music events in Warsaw this summer. It included more than 300 local and international performers, drawing an audience of more than 70,000.

The summer residence of the last king of Poland, Stanisław August Poniatowski, provided a stunning venue. Concerts were held both in the gardens and the Palace on the Isle and at the Stanisławowski Theater.

The 12-day festival included eminent orchestras, such as the Kremerata Baltica, the Orkiestra Sinfonia Varsovia (pictured), the Apollon Musagete, the Royal String Quartet, the Lutosławski Piano Duo and the TWOgether Duo, and also prominent soloists, including Marta Boberska, Gidon Kremer, Marcin Zdunik, Jakub Jakowicz, Marcin Masecki and Marcin Grochowina. Performers included the best students of the Chopin Music University, the winners of international competitions.

While the entire festival was a smorgasbord of musical magic, the finale was a special treat for music lovers. The Kremerata Baltica orchestra’s program included a number of unusual works, notably transcriptions of known works performed in an unconventional manner.

Formed in 1997, the Kremerata Baltica orchestra comprises 23 young musicians from Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia, together with the world renowned Gidon Kremer, a leading solo violinist and the orchestra’s artistic director. The orchestra has performed in more than 600 cities and given around 1,000 concerts around Europe, in Russia, Japan, Australia, the United States and Latin America.
