Cornerstone Laid for Gdynia Waterfront

In a ceremony Sept. 5, the cornerstone was laid for an office-and-hotel complex constituting phase one of the Gdynia Waterfront project in the coastal city of Gdynia. The developer, SwedeCenter, plans to complete this stage of the project in mid-2015.
Gdynia Waterfront will be a 90,000-sq-m complex with office space, a hotel, residential buildings, retail facilities and service outlets, in addition to cultural and recreational functions. The first stage of the project consists of a Marriott Courtyard hotel with a convention center and an office building that will be the headquarters of Nordea Bank Polska. The hotel is scheduled to open in 2015; it will be operated by the Scandinavian Hospitality Management company.
The Gdynia Waterfront complex is being built on a 3.6-hectare lot close to Kościuszki Square. The investor and developer is the SwedeCenter company, part of the Inter Ikea group. SwedeCenter will also manage the complex in the future. The design for phase one of the project is by architects Fort, and the general contractor is PORR Polska.
