Mercure Hotels Mark 40 Years
October 31, 2013
Mercure hotels around the world celebrated the brand’s 40th anniversary for 40 days between Sept. 16 and Oct. 25.
Mercure is a leading brand owned by Accor, one of the largest hotel operators in the world and the biggest in Europe. From Rio de Janeiro in Brazil to Moscow in Russia and Bangalore in India, Mercure guests were treated to special attractions and events inspired by local traditions. Surprises also awaited guests in Poland at each of the 18 Mercure hotels managed by the Orbis Hotel Group, Accor’s strategic partner in this country.
The Mercure chain comprises 746 hotels in over 50 countries. David Henry, sales, marketing, distribution and revenue management director at Orbis, says that Mercure hotels reflect local history and culture—guests are offered menus that always include local dishes while the interior decor of every hotel has a unique style.
The first Mercure hotel opened in 1973. Two years later, Accor acquired all Mercure hotels and added them to its portfolio. The Mercure chain began to expand rapidly, evolving into the global brand it is today. Mercure made its way to Poland two decades ago when the Mercure F. Chopin hotel opened in Warsaw in 1993.
