The popular comedy Klimakterium... i już (Menopause... End of Story) being staged at the Capitol Theater tackles the problems of women hit by the menopause with a big dose of refreshing humor.

Before the play premiered in Warsaw, this kind of open, relaxed and amusing way of dealing with the subject was largely unheard of in Poland. Elżbieta Jodłowska came up with the idea of writing the play when she saw women laughing until they cried at a humorous musical in Los Angeles that depicted their dilemmas and problems in a way the female audience instantly recognized. Jodłowska decided to write a piece in a similar vein but with a Polish setting and accompanied by songs that are favorites with Polish women.

The play features four talented actresses who talk and sing about menopause, creating a bond between the cast and the women in the audience. The show becomes a type of girls’ night out in which a sense of humor becomes a panacea for all manner of ills. The upbeat, friendly tone of the play does much to take the embarrassment and anxiety out of an experience that all women face at some point.

Upcoming performances:
Nov. 7, 7 p.m., Nov. 10, 17 and 23, 6:30 p.m.
Capitol Theater, 115 Marszałkowska St.
