Merlin.pl, one of Poland’s oldest online stores, has upgraded its website, providing it with a more user-friendly design, standardized fonts and an attractive choice of colors. The revamped website aims to streamline transactions and to provide users with clearer pages, so that products are easier to browse, compare, rate and buy.

Merlin.pl has also introduced an integrated shopping cart so that customers no longer need to use separate carts for different product categories. Next year, Merlin.pl plans to launch Merbook, its own e-book reader linked to other products available from the store.

The redesigned website is one of many steps Merlin.pl has taken recently, along with an advertising campaign entitled “Merlin wychodzi do Ciebie” (Merlin Reaches Out to You). The company has also expanded its nationwide chain of brick-and-mortar outlets where Merlin.pl users can order products and collect their purchases.

In November, Merlin.pl launched an advertising campaign involving the internet and billboards in 12 Polish cities. The main message is that, rather than just an online bookstore, Merlin.pl is a major e-store that sells movies, music, games, consumer electronics and cosmetics.

According to Anna Korzycka, head of the PR department at Merlin.pl, just a decade ago only a small group of internet users shopped online in Poland. “These days, no eyebrows are raised when you order books, games, cosmetics, clothes and household appliances over the internet,” said Korzycka. She added that the Merlin.pl website had to be revamped and enhanced with extra functionalities because e-commerce today is a huge and rapidly changing market.

Registered in 1998 and officially launched in 1999, Merlin.pl is one of Poland’s oldest online stores.
