Viewers in seven Polish cities will get a rare opportunity to see a selection of movies made in Croatia.

The films will be shown as part of the second in a series of overviews that are called Eye on the Balkans and are designed to introduce Polish audiences to movies from the Balkan region of southern Europe.

The first overview was held in January 2013 and featured movies from Serbia. The second one will be held this month with the spotlight on Croatia. Between Jan. 23 and 27, movie theaters in Warsaw, Cracow, Katowice, Wrocław, Lublin, Toruń and Gdynia will screen seven feature-length movies from Croatia, along with five documentaries and several films from the Zagreb School of Animation.

Croatia’s movie industry emerged relatively recently, but the country’s filmmakers pursue a wide range of styles. Most movies produced in Croatia focus on the problems of ordinary people with frequent references to current social and economic issues. There are also many lighthearted commercial productions that are popular with Croatians, allowing them to take some time off from problems past and present.
