Bank Zachodni WBK supports education via Santander Universidades

An alliance with 39 universities, 22 cooperation agreements, 56 science projects delivered, 25 students and scientists taking part in global programs in the USA, Germany and Singapore, opportunity for Polish universities to follow the world’s best higher education institutions – so much has happened since the Division Santander Universidades started working in Poland in December 2011.

Santander Universidades, a part of Banco Santander –the main investor of Bank Zachodni WBK – has been dedicated for more than 15 years to the collaboration with the university world.

The activities of Santander Universidades has become the Group’s strategic initiative which has earned it a reputation as the leading higher education supporter among financial institutions all over the world. Today, Santander Universidades supports more than four thousand projects run in 20 countries based on more than 1,100 collaboration agreements with universities.

So far, Bank Zachodni WBK has maintained a stable alliance with 39 universities as part of the activities of Santander Universidades, including eight universities ranked among top ten Polish universities.

The financial and program details have already been provided in the case of 22 agreements, thanks to which it was possible to launch 56 research and development, educational, and technological projects, and projects that promote business initiatives and the idea of mobility among university employees and students. In 2012, ten students and young scientists from Poland took part in global initiatives developed by Santander Universidades in the USA, Germany and Singapore. In 2013, such an opportunity was offered to 15 scholars.

‘Over the last two years, we have managed to develop the biggest program in Poland that links the world of business and science,’ Mateusz Morawiecki, President of Bank Zachodni WBK said.

‘Our plan for the next ten years is to boost Polish competitiveness and make a notable contribution to innovative economy. These days, it is universities that determine the quality and pace of the country’s future development. Santander Universidades in Poland gives students, both undergraduate and postgraduate, and university staff a chance to gain unique experience and acquire new skills. Additionally, it is the Bank’s priority project arising out of the sense of corporate responsibility, and a step ahead towards the country’s development,’ Morawiecki added.

Polish universities are very willing to grab opportunities offered by Santander Universidades. They participate in global programs organised by the world’s top universities such as Harvard Law School, University of California, University of Pennsylvania, National University of Singapore, or University of Cologne. They carry out both scholarship programmes and research and development programmes related to, for example, business development, new technologies, young people’s position in the labour market, and Spanish culture and language. Projects are addressed to undergraduate students, postgraduate students, graduates, and university research and administration staff.
