Red Box Reloaded
March 3, 2014
Article's tools:

British synth-pop legends Red Box are coming to Poland in March to give a one-night-only concert at the Wytwórnia club in £ód¼.

Formed in the 1980s by Simon Toulson-Clarke and Julian Close, Red Box reappeared in 2010 after a two-decade hiatus. The band have released three albums to date, including The Circle & The Square and Motive from their heyday, and Plenty from 2010. Plenty is a ballad-oriented production with a natural, acoustic sound replacing the synthesizers and drum machines that prevailed on Red Box’s earlier releases. Just as in their early years, Red Box continue to deliver powerful tunes that strike an emotional chord.

Since the band have been particularly popular in Poland, it was only natural that two singles off the 2010 album, “The Sign” and “Hurricane,” topped a hit chart compiled by the Polish public broadcaster’s Radio 3 station.

The driving force behind Red Box is vocalist and lyricist Toulson-Clarke. Along with Talk Talk, The Waterboys, Scritti Pollitti, The The and Aztec Camera, the band were one of a string of groups hailing from the British punk revolution. Each in its own way, the British groups aspired to refine and redefine pop music and they were successful in that sophisticated, alternative pop remains a strong genre to this day.

During the concert in £ód¼, the band will play several tracks off their latest album, scheduled for release later this year.
