Poles protest ‘in defense of children’
February 3, 2014
Several hundred people staged a protest in Warsaw on Sunday in relation to a planned vote on the European Parliament resolution to combat discrimination of sexual orientation and gender as they fear that such a resolution would make it possible to adopt children by homosexual couples in the whole European Union.
„We are protesting against unreasonable laws, such as the proposal of the European Parliament resolution granting privileges to sexual minorities. We think that creating legal acts like this is both dangerous and unjustified. It affects the rights of children and families as one of its postulates is enabling same-sex marriages and adoption by homosexual couples”, the president of the assemblage, Błażej Marzoch told reporters.
He said that the protest is “a civic initiative of young people” and not organized by any specific organization.
The demonstration was attended by representatives of Large Family Association (Stowarzyszenie Rodzin Wielodzietnych), Family Service Mission (Misja Służby Rodzinie), The All-Polish Youth (Młodzież Wszechpolska), The Right Wing of the Republic (Prawica Rzeczpospolitej) and scouts. The protests were backed by the Polish Federation of Life Defense Movements (Polska Federacja Ruchów Obrony Życia).
The protesters were waving white and red Polish flags and balloons, and holding banners reading: “Stop family-phobia”, :A child is a gift not a right”, “Gender=death”, “Strength lies in the family”, “Save the family”, “No to sexualization of our children”
